Local authorities have conservation departments which will help with any queries regarding thatch

BASIC RULES

The most important rule is like for like, a roof can be re-thatched in the same material and style no listed consent is normally required.

Any change of material requires listed consent.

Any addition requires listed consent.

Do not expect any rapid decisions if listed consent is required.

GRANTS

Very few authorities give grants, ask the conservation dept for the area.

Normally a thatched roof is listed do not expect to be able to do just what you want, always run any ideas by the conservation officer before engaging an architect.
