I Started thatching in 1971 working with my father learning techniques and particular styles associated with the eastern counties. In 1979 I started my own business, initially working on my own building up a reputation for professional service and quality work.
Over the years I have ploughed much of the profit into improving the infrastructure of the business, we are now self sufficient in straw, grow most of the willow used, on osier beds planted by ourselves. Have large storage buildings to keep materials in pristine condition, ready instantly as required. We carry large stocks of most thatching materials and have the machinery to lift and move them to site as required.
I now employ seven people including my son and two stepsons with three thatching teams running consecutively, working in Cambridgeshire and adjoining counties, carrying out varied thatching projects from well heads to enormous barn conversions. In Long Straw and Water Reed. Including many new houses with 44 for one company.
We have the capacity to carry out thatching work to a high standard in a professional manner to a reasonable cost.
Since most Thatched properites are now Listed buildings it is important that certain criteria are met , we are proud to be able to enjoy a good working relationship with South Cambs District Council. Renowned for their strict thatching policies. Carrying out many grant approved contracts.
