Green Burials Scotland

Situated in the rolling Galloway landscape, Glenley Green Burial Ground is a truly peaceful final resting place.

Glenley has been created from a former hay meadow, it is now managed in such a way as to encourage natural flora and fauna to flourish thereby creating a haven for wildlife and ensuring a legacy to be proud of.

Although the graves are not marked in the traditional sense, they are carefully plotted and recorded and the planting of indigenous trees and shrubs around the site is a popular and lasting method of memorial. The added benefit being the contribution to the environmental regeneration of this little corner of Scotland.

The burial ground can be used for the more traditional arrangements, but is also suited to non-religious and non-denominational alternatives. The site is open to all creeds and cultures.

Flexibility is such that any special personal requests regarding the internment will be sympathetically considered, and cremated remains can be buried or scattered. However, due to the ecologically sensitive ethos of the site, coffins and caskets made of biodegradable materials are preferred.

Visitors are welcome at all times, but due to the nature of the site are encouraged to keep to daylight hours and follow the rules of the countryside. Appropriate footwear is recommended.

Glenley is located on a small working farm a few miles from Kirkcudbright in Dumfries and Galloway.
